Firstly a warning, i'm not sure you could call this a blog or by any stretch of the imagination a technical tutorial of any description. Rather it's a little more info about some of the photos you can see at Cambridge Images.

I'll try and update this on a fairly regular basis, but adding new images will always take priority.

Newest entries will always appear at the top, which doesn't defy all logic.

16th: Cambridge News & Crier. A few weeks back I sold an image through Alamy (they sell my digital stock images), didn't think much of it and I never get to know who bought it or for what purpose. Friday 16th I got home to find the free cambridge paper with one of my photos on the front!

18th: Foxton Poppies. I had dropped my car off at the garage on the 16th and caught the train into to Cambridge. What a view, perhaps the highest density of poppies I had seen in years. I set the alarm for an early start the next morning. Dull skies lay behind the curtains. Luckily the the day after it looked more promising so a quick trip before work was called for. The poppies had past their best so no close up opportunities, but looking from a distance the colour was awe inspiring. Soon my time was up so I too joined the daily commute on the A10 past the Trumpington Park & Ride.

7th: Poppies & Daises. The field just off Granham's Lane (runs between Babraham Road and Great Shelford) was painted with colour. The density of poppies was not that great and it looked far more impressive from a distance, but worthy of a pan. The next hill along Gog Magog was covered in Oxeye daises. Getting low gave a great perspective even with an aperture of f18 depth of field was limited.

1st: Wonky Wisteria, Trinity College. I try and shoot hand held in the colleges where possible, but this has distinct drawbacks. My horizons are not always straight when I don't have the benefit of a tripod and a bubble level. As you can see from this wonky wisteria shot, photoshop really is your friend and a quick perspective transformation later and things were looking much better. The next shot handheld was much straighter, but the light had just gone off the wall and the colours were more muted, perhaps if I did have my tripod I may have missed the fleeting light!

24th: Cracking weather, bright blue skies. I had not ventured out as far as Girton college, but a friend had asked if I could take some bluebell photos for them, a 40th birthday present was on the cards. I popped in to Churchill College on my way back into town. The Moller Centre is very striking next to a blossom laden cherry tree.

2nd: SNOW! and quite a lot of it, most of the Cambridge schools were closed, but a few of us battled on regardless. I got into Cambridge early and parked over near Robinson College on a very slippy side road. The backs were quite busy considering the weather conditions, not the best for taking photos my biggest problem was keeping snow off the glass element on my lens. The hood was only limited use when the snow was coming sideways! I made do without changing lenses and kept my Tamron 28-75mm lens on the whole time I was shooting. I did make use of my tripod a few times, but most shots were taken handheld something I try and avoid at all costs, but the weather wasn't really appropriate for the occasion.

10th: I came into town with the family to do what the kids call "sight seeing". It involved a trip to the Fitzwilliam museum and then a visit to Kings College Chapel. I've not been inside the chapel for quite a few years so much so I had my Cambridge resident pass replaced with a new one, it was dated 1999! On the way in I noticed a big mobile phone with a cross through it, but no obligatory camera sign, so I asked one of the attendants if it was ok to take photos. The reply was yes as long as you don't use flash. Fantastic.

I don't think they would have been too keen on the use of tripods, so I set my camera to self timer, carefully laid it on it's back and managed to get a few shots of the spectacular ceiling. Most people did stand back a little, but a few just walked on by to be caught as a blur by the relatively long exposures. I'm going to pop back with my 17-40 at some stage to get some better interior shots, but the light levels are really quite low.

9th: Grantchester on a cold frosty morning, everything in Cambridge looks very grey. The last week the temperature has barely got above freezing, but instead of beautiful cold sunny crisp days we have been stuck with dullness! On this particular morning there was a little bit of mist so I headed off to Grantchester before work. I wandered around a bit down near the river, but didn't really get much inspiration.
